Project: Littleton Area Learning Center
Location: Littleton, New Hampshire
Completion Date: April 2008
The Littleton Area Learning Center is an existing, older pre-engineered metal building housing multiple tenants, which had concerns raised about its roof snow load capacity due to building deflections. An evaluation to establish the safe roof snow load capacity of the structure was requested by the owner and performed, following field measurement of the structure since no drawings of the superstructure were available. It was determined that the building had a relatively low snow load capacity for its location. Because structural upgrades would be both obtrusive in the space and prohibitively expensive, a passive snow monitoring system was designed and implemented by Tirey and Associates, P.C. to assist the owner in determining when snow needs to be removed from the roof.
